The most important watch fair of the year, Watches and Wonders in Geneva, closed its doors in April smashing visitor records with an impressive total of 49,000 international visitors. The Swiss Maison celebrated its debut in Geneva this year and simultaneously presented two new chronographs that symbolise a fitting tribute to the founding date of Eberhard & Co. in 1887: the “Chronographe 1887 Édition Limitée” in a limited edition of 250 pieces and the “Chronographe 1887 Automatique”, which we will now take a closer look at.
A Journey Through Time
It was a successful debut for Eberhard & Co. at Watches and Wonders: “We are satisfied with this first experience, both commercially and in terms of public feedback,” says Mario Peserico, General Manager of Eberhard & Co.
The two new models of the “Chronographe 1887” were presented, which are the result of an extensive journey through time by the Eberhard & Co. Every technical or aesthetic detail has been carefully chosen to interpret the characteristic features of the historic chronographs in their contemporary form, explains the Maison. The emblem of Eberhard & Co, the Shield, which was also visible in the design of the stand at the Geneva Salon, plays a special role. The emblem of the “Bouclier Pointu”, originally registered in 1892 as the “Poinçon de Maîtres”, stands for authenticity, reliability and consistency and has been a central design element of all the Maison’s timepieces since the very beginning.
Visually, the “Chronographe 1887” is reminiscent of the historic chronographs from Eberhard & Co. This can be seen in details such as the vintage-style crown (in steel and water-resistant), with a coaxial pusher personalised with the letter “E” and the steel case with its sinuous lines. The elegant dials feature a spiral tachymeter and telemeter scale in the centre. The combination of colours, details, finish and workmanship is reminiscent of the historical models and lends the chronographs a special charm.
